KID 🖤

Kai is like… the best friend everyone wants to have around because he has the best heart and sense of humor while still being real and flawed. I already loved him going into this book but I didn’t expect so much depth and the freaking character development, holy shit! Man changed his whole life around and became a better version of himself… we love to see the growth!

Johanna 🖤

This woman was the bane of my existence for the first 200 pages. I couldn’t understand the obsession and truly agreed that he deserved better but the more I got to know her, the more I saw myself in her life experiences. I relate to what happened to her more than I’d like and I connected with this book tenfold because of that and Johanna along with it. I wanted her to overcome her trauma and find the good for herself in life. Tragedy happens and sometimes we need the right person to trust and lean on and help us through the pain/memories/trauma and start healing.

I loved that they both had all these issues and those hard moments/conversations weren’t avoided in the story. Drug abuse is a hard topic to cover but JH did it so well. I appreciate her even more for tackling such a difficult subject and doing it justice.

Also, I am so happy we got so much more of Hawke and Cole! I love imagining them getting married, loving their little one and having regular dinners with Kai and Johanna. Gah, this just came together so beautifully and I am obsessed! I only wish there were more. 🙃

Favorite quotes:
“It’s a funny thing, knowing what happens next will break you, and yet wanting to remain behind the line, not crossing over into that new reality just yet.”

“Today I want to drown in her. Sink down beneath her surface and fucking drown in everything that she is. I want her in my lungs, in my veins, in my soul. I need her to end me in all the ways imaginable so I can live in her dark, impenetrable hell.”
