Pearl in the Sand
by Tessa Afshar
A wonderful inspirational book about a formal harlot who turns to God and her faith brings about her redemption and the redemption of the whole world as she is used by God in the genealogical line of our Savior.
This is a fictional book about a real person. We have the story in scripture in Joshua 2- 6 and Matthew 1:5-6 (ESV) "...and Salmon the father of Boaz by Rahab, and Boaz the father of Obed by Ruth, and Obed the father of Jesse, and Jesse the father of David the king." But, the details we have in this book are mostly fictional. We do not know the details of the relationship between Salmone (as it is spelled in the book) and Rahab. But this is a wonderful story of the way things could have been and it was beautifully written as well as convicting and inspirational.
God sees sin so differently that we humans do. One sin is the same as another in His eyes. Each sin... One sin... no matter the type, keeps us from entrance into heaven. We commit many sins each day. Only the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ cleanses us from ALL sin. For the Israelites it was the blood of the sacrifice and trust in the saving plan that God had provided and the plan he had for a future Messiah that brought forgiveness of sin. And.. because of the forgiveness God dispenses to us we can forgive others. Yes, sometimes it is hard. Yes, sometimes they don't deserve it... sometimes they don't even ask for forgiveness... but if we live with bitterness in our hearts it hurts us more than it hurts those who have wounded us. Many times those that have hurt us the most do not even know the hurt they have caused. We must seek God's strength to do the right thing and forgive others, only he can supply that kind of strength to us... the same strength he used to forgive those who unjustly crucified him... Luke 23:34a English Standard Version (ESV)
"And Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.”
I am not perfect. I am FAR from it. I struggle with forgiving others. I struggle with bitterness. I seek to forgive and seek the Lord for the strength to forgive others. I continue to work on it and some days the forgiveness is there and then there are times that Satan brings the hurts back to my mind and heart and I trust God for the strength to forgive them again... 70 times 7... and continue trusting and living my life the best that I can for my Lord.
