Anathema by Keri Lake
5.0
5 freaking stars. I should be be surprised how much this story consumed me. Full review to come!
✨ dark fantasy romance
✨ bits of horror
✨ enemies to lovers
✨ forced proximity
✨ slowest of slow burn
✨ tortured and scarred MMC
✨ shunned FMC
Well here it is, my next favorite fantasy romance obsession and another book by Keri Lake to obsess over. This book was so so good. It was the slowest of slow burns but every little crumb of these two had me flipping through the pages for more but the way the plot had me completely captivated made the slow burn so worth it.
This has dark elements, a bit of horror and all the gothic goodness you can expect. This is truly such an experience from beginning to end. It is very plot heavy and I found myself flipping back and forth to the map and glossary to follow along but I love this complex world and magic system she created, the book ended leaving me absolutely feral for more and I cannot wait until book 2 of this and we can finally see more of them together.
It has a found family aspect, a brother just trying to do the best for his siblings even if that makes him a monster, a shunned FMC finally finding out who she is and what she’s capable of and a delicious slow burn romance between a tortured & scarred Kings assassin and the girl who finally brings him to his knees!
