Abercrombie returns to the world of the First Law for a fantasy revenge story stand-alone!
I loved Abercrombie's "First Law" trilogy, so I was glad to see he returned to the same world for a series of stand-alone stories. This one was a fantasy version of a revenge story comparable to Kill Bill or something similar. Monzcarro and her brother were mercenaries (rather like Renaissance condottieri), but Duke Orso of Talins (who is a minor character in the First Law series) fears their popularity with his people, so he has them murdered . . . Or so he tries. But Monzcarro survived and puts together a crew to help her seek revenge on the 7 men directly involved in her brother's death and her attempted murder). The crew includes a some minor characters from the First Law series, and other such characters get cameos, but this really is a stand-alone story, and it is FUN!
