I re-read the first two books in this series like they were cold water bottles and I’d spent the day in the desert. This third book I re-read very slowly over the last two and a half years. When I first read this book, it was one of my favorites. There are parts of this book that I have often thought about in my daydream to daydream life over the last 20 years. I loved the mermaid and the dragon. I loved Kral and the skins around his axe. I loved the boats. I loved the arm. This time through though, I felt like too much was happening, too fast, and too often. No one should have that much trouble. Still delightful. The love story seems more problematic than it did 20 years ago, and the writing didn’t seem as good, but I still love the characters and had a great time.
