4 stars = i loved it!
Okay… well… I wouldn’t say it was an enjoyable book to read. It’s way too… ahhhh this is very quickly what the United States is turning into and it’s not great at being escapism right now… but it was a very well written book.
I surprisingly loved the choice to not include line breaks or quotation marks, with strategically placed run ons. It very much increased the feelings of anxiety and dread that Eilish was feeling
If you like literary fiction and could handle very dark books about refugee crises and authoritarianism, then I highly recommend, but also… go read a romantasy instead
Also… unrelated…god i disliked Eilish for most of the book, mostly for the ways she treated Molly. Bailey was by far my favorite character. Poor baby boy.

Graphic: Child death
It’s offscreen, but you do see a corpse
