God of Malice by Rina Kent
4.0
Spice: 2.5/5
Plot: 4/5
Alright bookstagram, I understand the obsession now. This was my first Rina Kent and it did not disappoint!
I’m sitting here trying to write this review and I asked myself if there was a plot, and I honestly don’t remember now lol. Excuse me while I refer to my highlights and notes….
Ok… memory refreshed, kind of lol. Honestly I still don’t remember a lot of the plot, but I do remember some very key things. (And that isn’t me throwing shade against the book, I’ve just gotten lazy with writing reviews right after I’m done reading lol.) I loved both of our main characters - but the name Glyndon is a terrible fucking choice for an FMC - Killian on the other hand, was perfectly named. I feel like both of these characters were brilliant in their own separate ways. It was refreshing to read a dark romance where the psychopath is actually a psychopath - and yes, I can’t believe I just said that, but we don’t question things here lmao. But Killian is just that and it’s fucking brilliant. I loved the insight we get into why he is the way he is and the way that Glyn is able to understand him on a deeper level and how and why she’s able to. I think their arcs both together and separately were absolutely perfect.
The writing in this was very very good. There were a couple minor errors and just small things but overall I was really pleased with Rina’s talent and ability to tell a story. I absolutely ADORED reading about our other characters and getting to know them. I’m really really really looking forward to God of Fury, because I cannot fucking wait to read Bran and Niko’s story now. I feel like it’s gunna be three more books worth of slow burn to get to them and I’m simultaneously ecstatic for that and terrified lol. She also threw a couple decent plot twists that I didn’t see coming, which is a huge bonus cuz normally I can see that shit coming a mile away lol.
The only real issue I had with this was the length. It’s needlessly drawn out and at around the 2/3 or 3/4 mark I found myself losing interest. But I will say, right when I started to get a little bored Rina flipped the script a little and started giving us chapters from a perspective that I was not expecting and that really piqued my interest again. I don’t know if that continues throughout the other books, but I like it and I think it should! OH AND… What the fuck is up with “his lordship”?!? Christ on a fucking cracker was that the most annoying thing I’ve ever read! Someone please tell me he doesn’t do that for all of the books?! I might lose my mind lol.
Overall I really enjoyed this and I’m loving the world that she’s building here. It IS dark, so check the trigger warnings and if the first couple chapters don’t scare you away you should be fine lol. But yea, if dark is your thing, this should be on your TBR one hundred fucking percent.
