Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Predators and Prey by Doug Petrie, Steven S. DeKnight, Drew Z. Greenberg, Jane Espenson, Joss Whedon, Jim Krueger

This was definitely my favourite season 8 comics so far. Might have to do with the numerous Buffy writers who each wrote one "episode". In order of preference, it was "Harmonic Divergence" (Jane Espenson), "Living Doll" (Doug Petrie), "Swell" (Steven S. DeKnight), "Safe" (Jim Krueger) and "Predators and Prey" (Drew Z. Greenberg).

"Harmonic Divergence" was really funny and so typically selfish Harmony. I could totally see her having her own vamp reality show on MTV. I would have liked it even better if they had done a Bachelorette mini-episode along her "Harmony Bites" one in the short stories at the end. I just don't understand how this fits in the Buffy/Angelverse, since I'm pretty sure season 8 was starting when Angel's season 5 was airing...? Therefore Harmony could logically not be in it? Or is this specific episode supposed to be after the Angel finale (since it's "episode" 22)?

"Living Doll" was a good one too. Nice to see a close to Dawn's storyline. While I am still not 100% on board with it as a whole, Dawn dating a thricewise is not surprising at all and kind of makes sense. I mean, Joyce dated a robot and Buffy dated vampires, so it's not exactly out of character for a Summers girl.

"Swell" was also quite interesting. I quite enjoyed "Toy Story going dark". Still not a fan of Kennedy (can she die or simply disappear from existence already?), but Satsu's personnality change was a good take on homophobia.

"Safe" was alright. I always like seeing Faith and I feel like we see too little of her in the comics. I know she has her own comics with Angel, but I've always liked her relationship and the way she challenges Buffy so much more. Unfortunately, those two have no interaction at all together in this specific "episode", but her relationship with Giles has potential. I also liked the ending.

Finally, "Predators and Prey" was okay. Better than previous volumes, but not as good as it could have been. I like Andrew. I really, really like Andrew. He's this big nerd that is always too much for whatever situation he ends up in. But his nerd-ness doesn't translate as well in comics format as Xander's - which might have to do with Xander referring more to other comics and Andrew referring more to movies, I don't know. Monologues don't look good in comic strips. I find entire pages of monologues tiring to the eyes. And I have a bone to pick with Buffy about Daniel Craig. He is NOT better as Bond than Pierce Brosnan! And he looks a lot less distinguished as James Bond than Brosnan ever did. She could do so much better in her fantasies than a generic surfer-like guy...

The remaining 3 volumes are looking a bit better now. Here'S to finishing the season soon.
