Bookish Boyfriends by Tiffany Schmidt

There was no way I was going to like this book.

A Date with Darcy is about a teenage girl named Merri who just transferred to a new school with her sister Rory and best friend Eliza. Merri is a booknerd and says that boys in books are better than real life boys. That is until all the boys at her new school seem like they stepped out of one of her favorite books. Merri fashions herself as a real life Juliet, waiting for her Romeo.

This is younger YA, for sure. Younger to the point where I don't see how an adult could read this and fall in love with it or find it worth the read. So obviously it just wasn't the book for me! Merri is SO young and it showed. She's obsessed with the idea of what her dream boy is and she literally idolizes Romeo and Juliet for god's sake! You're telling me out of all the classics she's read, THAT is the story she calls the most romantic and wants to live?? SIS.

Half of this book is just her and other characters arguing about Shakespeare in and out of class and it was so endless and boring. I barely stayed awake during my own schooling about old white male authors and I sure wasn't staying awake for someone else's.

Not the book for me but I'm sure a lot of young girls would love this.
