Hunted by the Sky by Tanaz Bhathena
4.0
Gulnaz s parents are murdered by sky warriors as she is a star marked girl, who are hunted in the region of Ambar due to a prophecy! The prophecy states rising of a marked girl to the fall of present King Lohar, who succeeded queen Megha by controversial means. The Realm is of magic and non magic people and the non magus live in tenements. Gul is saved by the Sisterhood of the Golden Lotus and under the eyes of Juhi, Kali, Amira she learns to bring on her subdued magic but her headstrong, precocious nature doesn't change at all! Juhi also conforms to Guls magus mother s believe that she is the prophesized Star Warrior.Gul meets Cavas, presumably her Neel Chand or soul mate who will aid her in fulfilling her Destiny. Gul has the undying desire to kill Raja Lohar but she is unknowing of the other potent threat in Major Shayla, the woman commander known as the scorpion.
Gul deserts the sisterhood and enters the palace as serving girl to rani Amba, encounters magic like never before, Cavas aids her fuelled by living spectres of what essentially are ghosts but sinister plots undergo too.
.
Gul finds a special ally in Rajkumari Malti and a unsaid relationship in Rajkumar Amar. While misunderstandings between Cavas and her blooms, she lands herself in trouble and in focus of the Major and Raja. The rest of the story will be a giveaway if mentioned here.
The book is essentially a beautiful one, with the cover and the interiors but personally its overhyped for me. Its an old tale in a new bottle with many a cliche and expected MC s. The writing is filled with familiar Indian references but the romance is not served up well and Gul herself is a mix of nerves and hot headedness. There are no characters that I can deeply fall in love with. The magic non magic fight is also not a new idea and that of a tyrant king falling for an individual isnot too. Not a mind blowing read for me, a good one will say!
