Bad Things Happen Here by Rebecca Barrow

3.0

The representation in this book was fantastic, we had plus-sizes characters, queer characters, POC characters, mental health rep, and interracial relationships. Absolutely adored it.

So I did struggle with my thoughts on this a bit. I really did love the complexity of the characters and the writing style was definitely something I found interesting, but some of the twists in the story just fell a bit flat for me.

I think the pacing of the book is what gripped me most, the use of the short chapters made it flow, there wasn’t any points where the pacing was off which is really good in a suspense book.

The mental health representation was perfect for me, it felt accurately written and was tackled in a thoughtful way, props to the author for this.

I honestly think my main issue with this was the lack of ‘wow’ with the twists. I just expected… more?
