Even though technically the second book in the Wayward Children series, the story is a prequel to Every Heart a Doorway, focusing on the morbid twin sisters Jack and Jill. I enjoyed the story, although it didn't grip me as much as the previous book did, probably because it was more of a classic dark fantasy story. I loved the character development and the writing style, and would have devoured this dark fairytale with vampires and mad scientists as a teen!
