Vespertine by Margaret Rogerson

This review is laaaaaate.

I was provided an e-arc of this book with the disclaimer that a lot of the repetition would be edited out of the final copy of the book. With that in mind, I give this book a 4 out of 5 stars.

This book was cool, point blank, period. Medieval gothic nuns, spirit possession, demonic plots, and a damaged and flawed female MC all wrapped in a dose of comedy. Vespertine has been compared to Venom, and it does not disappoint -however, it doesn’t have a romantic arc which I found absolutely refreshing. I love a good fantasy romance but it was nice to see a female MC working to save the world that didn’t have to battle for their partner.

The hierarchy of spirits is a bit complex and remembering how they are formed takes a bit of effort but I found that it added a lot to the story and I expect will be quite helpful as this series continues. I look forward to more from this world .
