The Butcher and the Wren
by Alaina Urquhart
This reads like a true crime podcast, but without an actual wrap-up. It's clear that the author left room for a sequel, but I doubt I'll be down for the ride. The storyline displays the author's background as some sort of morgue technician and highlights her myriad knowledge of serial killers. However, the multiple insertions of facts noting the methodology of various murderers seemed forced in an attempt to exclaim, "See, I am well versed in true crime!" The asides were distracting, and I was disappointed that I must purchase book 2 (or maybe 3) to reach a conclusion.
