Red Rising by Pierce Brown
5.0
EDIT 24/10/20: I'm bumping this up to a 5 star. I haven't been able to stop thinking about this book since I read it and I truly think it's one of my favourite books of all time.
4.5 stars.
"Men cannot be freed by the same injustice that enslaved it."
I CAN'T BELIEVE IT. I ACTUALLY ADORED A SCI-FI NOVEL. If you know anything about me, you'll know I have done nothing but struggle with sci-fi. But Pierce Brown, wow. You hit the mark, man. I don't think I've ever read a book with so many twists and turns, one that is so ridiculously dramatic and flamboyant, that doesn't come across as corny. All I'm going to say is that the second half of this had me with tears in my eyes and goosebumps up and down my arms until the last word. The only reason this doesn't get 5 stars is because my brain is smooth and I had a hard time grasping all of the concepts of the world in the beginning, but I'm sure that on a reread this will have earned all of the stars. I'm so glad I didn't knock this one before I tried it. I can't wait to read Golden Son.
