Incredibly witty. This was my first read by Richard Russo and I wouldn’t be surprised if I were to read more of his work. He’s a favorite of my 94 yo great aunt who recommended the book. Based on her wit and sense of humor, it’s no mystery why she likes his writing and this book in particular.
I really liked the main character, Hank. Maybe it’s because he’s about my age and I relate. Maybe despite his snark (or maybe because of it), I found him attractive. He was also honest and earnest. He was also funny as hell with his dry sense of humor. The side characters were a mixed bag of likable and unlikable personalities, but each had a distinct role in the unfolding of the story, which was exceedingly clever and entertaining. I’m a big fan of HEAs and this one delivered with everyone getting what they deserved in the end.
