This review is going to be a stark contrast to a lot of other reviews listed for this book.
Unfortunately, this book didn't hit home for me like it did so many others.

So far this series has featured quite a few hits but has also contained some misses for me. What others might find swoon-worthy, I found the opposite. The main couple, Rhea and Hermes really grinded my gears. After spending a lot of time apart, they find themselves finally alone and able to share the closeness they so desperately missed. Spoiler, the book opens up with a good amount of spice and continues for a fair amount of pages. After that, I did skim through most of the spice between the two. Many readers begged for more spice in the series, whereas I would have been fine without most of it. Hermes' insufferable, teenage-like hormones took away some of his intrigue for me. And Rhea is supposed to contain immense power and greatness and yet, she comes across as meek, whiny, and juvenile.

The broader plotline is still carrying me through this story as well as the twists and turns presented in the side characters, I simply wish it was more of the focal point in the book. The pacing to me still feels slow/medium without any sign of finishing the quest they initially started on.

What saved this book was the POVs that were outside of Rhea and Hermes. They were darker, more thrilling, and made me feel something when I read them. (Which makes the star marker a 4). The ending destroyed others, however, I loved it. The unexpected nature made me excited instead of upset. Not everything needs to be wrapped in a beautiful bow and presented beautifully.

My investment in this series is my reasoning for continuing and I will see it through to the end.
