One of the most frustrating things for me in comics is when white men try to write characters who aren't white men and just totally don't understand that other people might think differently than they do. The introduction by the author was excellent but from the first page of the comic I was disappointed. From choosing to center the least interesting characters to dehumanizing the protagonist with outrageous sexualization, this book's wonderful concept fell flat for me. The art is beautiful, the story meaningful in many ways. But it just wasn't up to snuff for me. No big deal, I'll just go back to avoiding comics written by white men. This one was part of a mystery bundle of sff graphic novels from the library.
