Hood

In many ways this reminds me of Slammerkin. They're both exceedingly sad and incredibly beautiful books. While Slammerkin is a more piercing kind of sadness, this one is more aching. While not falling into the category of "favorites" for me, this is a phenomenal book. It's heartbreaking to voyeuristically watch Pen's week after her girlfriend dies, but also fascinating. It also seemed weirdly personal to me, though I've never lost a girlfriend in this way. But Pen was easy to relate to, and her feelings seemed familiar.
