Winter King: Henry VII and the Dawn of Tudor England by Thomas Penn

3.0

This was a period of history about which I knew relatively little and was my main reason for reading the book. I enjoyed the ‘learning’ experience and was impressed by Henry as an individual. The author writes well but in a VERY detailed way. Pages long descriptions of preparations for weddings, funerals and other great occasions and detailed accounts of the ladies or gents attire left me a little cold.
The book’s main strength lay in the well researched accounts of Henry as a man and of his astute political insight which allowed him to survive and thrive during a very perilous period in English history.
