Cinder by Marissa Meyer

4.5

i never actually wrote a review for this book, so i’ll quickly summarize my thoughts. This was a re-read for me and i knew that i was likely going to still enjoy this book but i didn’t expect to fall in love with it all over again. what i appreciate about our main character, Cinder, is that she stands up for herself. There are times, of course, when she feels weak (when she’s around her stepmom, for example) but ultimately shes very opinionated and headstrong.

the sickness, the politics, and magic system was all very interesting to learn about as well. i think my only complaint with this book was that the hatred towards cyborgs was kind of ridiculous and i don’t think it was explained. i just don’t understand why EVERYONE is so disgusted by disabled people?? because that’s what they are, essentially. the only reason i can think of is because they’re partly made of metal, but isn’t this just akin to prosthetics in the real world?? maybe it’s meant to be overblown for that exact reason, like it’s supposed to be dumb because ableism is dumb. i don’t know, though. it’s a long series, so it’ll likely be more explored in the rest of the books.
