Spring Essence: The Poetry of Ho Xuan Huong by Hô Xuân Huong

4.0

i'm incredibly sad that the poems cannot fully be appreciated the way they were intended to be written, simply because there are innuendos, metaphors, puns as well as double entendres in the original language through spoken as well as written means.

thankfully, there is something akin to an explanation on some of these wordplays, but i can imagine that not all of them are captured in the way they were mayhaps intended.

If I could change my fate, become a man
of heroic deed, couldn't I do better?
