Parts of this kinda reminded me of Pynchon, but if he was more relaxed and toned down and even less concerned with conventional plot structure. Also if he drank a lot. I mean all that in the best way. I guess it's not really much like Pynchon, just the dirty sense of humor and '70s context made me think of Pynchon. Anyway, this is such a surreal and beautifully disjointed stream-of-consciousness fuckfest of a book. Ramblings and aphorisms of an alcoholic and sex-addicted doctor who's a veteran of Vietnam. Also one of the best things I've ever read. Pure, unbridled, insane poetry. Had to run it back as soon as I finished it and I don't remember the last time I did that with a book. Give this man the fuckin Faulkner prize. Oh wait....
