the only books about white women that i read are often about unhinged white women. this feels like yellowface in reverse, i started off hating her and grew to hate her slightly less through her drug addled rambles towards clarity and meaning. she gets there somehow, and the writer is all the more adept for being able to express the insights her character gleans through her somewhat self-imposed struggles.
it would be hard to describe this to someone to recommend it; I also wouldn't recommend it to anyone seriously struggling with depression bc it is a little on the self-destructive side for most of the novel.
