Seconds by Bryan Lee O’Malley
3.0

Katie runs a pretty successful restaurant called Seconds, but the problem is that she doesn't own it. She has big dreams to turn a rundown building into her own restaurant, but the construction is expensive and comes to a standstill. Throw on top of that her ex-boyfriend popping back up in her life, her fling with the current chef going south, and a waitress being injured on the job, Katie is in desperate need of a second change. She gets just that when a strange girl appears in her bedroom with a list of instructions for an overnight do-over. Write down the mistake, eat a mushroom, go to sleep, and wake up to your mistakes being undone. The perfect solution, except of course for the consequences.

Seconds is both an amusing and dark read. Katie arguing with the narrator and the illustrations make it seem like it's going to be a light read, but then Katie starts changing her life and it slowly gets darker. Katie is a pretty selfish character. She has goals, but doesn't really think about the people around her in the process of achieving them. I'm sure we all know a few people like that (and have probably been guilty of being that person on occasion).
