The Lies That Bind
by Emily Giffin
This book gets 2 stars for being so incredibly unrealistic but 5 for being so incredibly entertaining. So, I compromised at 3.5 and then rounded up to 4 because I love Emily Giffin (Btw, just now learning her last name is Giffin. I've been reading her books for YEARS and have been saying "Emily Griffin" this whole time.)
Anyway, let's get to the point.
Cecily is at a crossroads in her life. She's not nearly as successful as she would like to be, and she's chronically single after breaking up with her long-term boyfriend Matthew. While she can't do much about her success in a moment's time, she can do a lot about her relationship status. But when she reaches for the phone to call Matthew up, she hears a voice telling her not to do it.
Cue Grant, A.K.A owner of the voice. Cecily and Grant hit it off immediately that night, and despite the undeniable barriers to their relationship, the two can't seem to say goodbye -- until they have no choice. On the morning of September 11, 2001, Grant disappears. Cecily searches for him, desperately, not knowing that his reappearance might leave her with more questions than answers.
If you like novels where each and every turn takes you by complete surprise, pick this one up. It's quite the ride.
