Things Have Gotten Worse Since We Last Spoke by Eric LaRocca

1.75

While I love being a hater this isn't one of those moments, this was just... Boring? It felt like the collection of the authors horror short creepypastas mushed into one - he even had to say "oh that's why I brought up that one" because I feel like even editorially it made no sense to include so much meandering and yapping in a book that's already really short. It wasn't scary, it wasn't gross, it wasn't compelling, the dynamic and mystery between the two protagonists is only presented but doesn't exist. LaRocca's prose I didn't like but I appreciate that's just down to taste, but even if I did so much of this book is just a literary flex that isn't that* impressive? I dunno. I ask why is he writing not as in "he should stop" but as in "what is his goal", and I don't know, even now. Anyway I'm not mad at it, it just feels like a college assignment. Hm.
