Quite an interesting and decently unique concept for this genre. The execution wasn't half bad either.

The dynamic between Mora and Zadriel in particular was a fresh take on the relationships we've grown used to. An MMC who is everything but the typical single most ruthless and confident person on the face of the planet, and a powerful and savvy shadow mommy, both with a decent backstory? I approve.

Not exactly sure where the plot is supposed to go at this point - frankly I feel the shark got jumped a little too soon and with no bigger baddie set up to look forward to as of yet. Andras was kind of weaksauce and leaving him alive felt like a senseless cop out in Mora's greater character arc. I'm not looking forward to dealing with him again in the sequel, but oh well.

Overall, I'd say this was fine, if a tad underdeveloped worldbuilding and lore-wise. A bunch of the side characters also felt rather flimsy and pointless, and there were entirely too many POV switches for that to be justifiable. The prose was also pretty generic, but had it's moments here and there.

Is it the best thing ever written? No. Would I mind continuing the series? Also no.
