Breathers: A Zombie's Lament by S.G. Browne

3.0

I actually picked up 'Breathers' due to its description as a zom-rom-com, as I am a total sucker for intelligent marketing! Browne delivered a gory, passably funny take on zombie fiction, but I ultimately found that the nature of the zombies kept pulling me out of the narrative - they retain emotions and memories after reanimation, yet have little to no problem with eating their family members. With this in mind, I find the 'oppression' of zombies within the novel totally justified!
