I really wish the author hadn’t doubled back and presented an alternate ending. It ruined the story.
The ending without reading the last two “scenes” made sense and as the reader, you could feel that’s how the story would conclude. Sad? Yes. Maddening? Also yes. But it was their story and stories are sometimes sad and maddening.
The alternate two “scenes” are almost a slap in the face as they were too fantastical, too perfect, too not like the rest of how the story naturally ebbed and flowed. They have a very different feel than the rest of the story and I honestly wish I hadn’t read them.
