The Red Tent
by Anita Diamant
I thought this book was absolutely amazing. It truly honors women and mothers in a way I have never before seen in words; the way these women honor nature and the feminine I found beautiful, and the way they lived came across to me as so honest and pure. What I liked about Anita Diamant's writing is that it was incredibly vivid and detailed, but always captivating. I very much appreciated the feminine voice of a story thousands of years old, that had been told from the proud, patriarchal perspective of males. I think Diamant's take seems not only valid but likely, knowing how primitive these people were. I finished this book weeks ago but I continue to think about the story, and my respect for mothers, always huge, is now more felt.
