Jesus. I don’t think I was prepared for this book. I have read and loved two other books by Jimenez (in the Part of Your World trilogy) and decided that I’d like to read from the beginning with her debut trilogy. I knew there would be emotions, but I was expecting a much lighter romance. It was light… until it wasn’t. Then it was just beautiful. I spent the last 40 pages or so basically ugly crying over every chapter.
The one part I really didn’t care for was the objectifying talk amongst the guys at the firehouse. It was shot down more than once, though, and mostly instigated by the asshole friend, Shawn. I guess there’s one in every group.
Trigger warning and somewhat of a spoiler here (although I tried to keep it vague) as well as more details below that are definitely a spoiler —>Short version: motor vehicle accident with a detailed account of the first response and hospital stay.

The MMC’s best friend gets hit by a car while on a motorcycle. MMC is first on scene and is obviously traumatized by the friend’s condition. The hospital stay (medically induced coma) goes on for a while, resulting in the friend suffering a stroke and becoming brain dead. This might not trigger everyone, but I recently lost my mother to a very similar type of accident and hospital experience. It took me by surprise and I was a hot mess reading it, but I still loved the whole book!
