Brighter Than the Sun by Darynda Jones

4.0

So this one was interesting, and probably the only book where I didn't dislike Reyes intensely. You kind of get to see his side of things, and it's not just a repeat of every scene in Charley's books.

You get to see the dark life Reyes has led under his abusive father, and the first time he meets Charley as a teenager begins to make a lot more sense. I was initially peeved about him making a rape threat against her, but once you get a glimpse about his background...that rape threat begins to make a lot more sense. It's unfortunately something he is painfully familiar with.

There is a pretty significant spoiler in this book for a future plot point, neatly tucked away. A horrible realization Reyes has about someone very close to Charley that I genuinely did not expect. I am really looking forward to seeing that come up in the next few books.

TLDR: worth a read for sure.
