People We Meet on Vacation by Emily Henry

5.0

this was the first emily henry book i read and i've been hooked ever since. while it's good and nice to identify with characters in books, most of the time i find it hard to do which doesn't exactly bother me if i enjoy the story.

it's why i was pleasantly surprised to feel myself connect with poppy as much as i did. being, not embarrassed by/of, but afraid people won't understand your family because you're so defensive of them even in their odd(er) ways. the career fatigue (though i'm only at my first job, so i fear i have lots of years to feel this again). if you've ever been in love with your best friend, whether it's 5% or 95%, you know it's a daunting feeling. it takes everything in you to push them away enough that it still feels like you have every piece of them. you feel selfish but can't find it in yourself to feel guilty all that much.

i think emily henry did a wonderful job with the slow burn and i love a story that goes back and forth and gives you all the details before what happened is revealed. i'm about to start me second re-read through this to annotate it for a friend. i will always love poppy and alex
