Few books have made me cry. This was one of them.
Yes, this is a romance novel, but it is so much more than that. It’s about family, relationships, and human complexity. Everyone always says that you can never know what’s truly happening to a person, can never know their full story, but this book personifies that.
Of course I loved reading about the love story between January and Gus, but what I truly latched on to was the story that lied between January and her parents. But that was just me— there is so much story here. There is so much to relate to or empathize with that I think there’s something here for everyone. Whether you want a romance or something that will make you feel something.
I saw a video of Emily Henry talking about how part of the inspiration behind this book came from division from the 2016 election. Knowing that also made this all the more powerful. This is definitely a book I’ll have to come back to and not to be dramatic but I literally feel like my worldview has shifted dear LORD Emily what have you done.
