Definitely a story any SJM fan would love. It’s giving Throne of Glass if it had a much broodier, wordier older sister. Incredibly dark, badass FMCs, interesting court and border politics, steamy romance, and lots of unfolding mystery. Love the writing style and non-argument dialogue. I will say this book could’ve been a third shorter…argument dialogues were repetitive and tedious at times and miscommunication tropes doing its worst. Scarlet reads as older but is 19 which is annoying, though she does get a bit annoying herself with roundabout arguing and tantrums and is treated v much like a child by her love interests. Eye roll. Would’ve rated a bit higher but for this! Overall I look forward to the rest of the series!
