The Menagerie by Kari H. Sutherland, Tui T. Sutherland

4.0

After Logan's mom disappears, he and his dad move from Chicago to Wyoming in the hopes of finding her. What Logan ends up finding instead is a baby griffin hiding underneath his bed. As he tries to make sense of the mythical creature in his bedroom, he ends up at the house of the strangest girl in his grade. There he discovers "The Menagerie," a mythical creature preserve, complete with griffins, unicorns, merpeople, a yeti, and more. With the other griffin cubs still missing, Logan joins Zoe and Blue in the search, hoping to find them before it is too late. This is a bit more light-hearted than Fablehaven, another fabulous series about mythical creatures, and can be read by a younger crowd. You might want to have the second book on hand, though, it ends on a cliff-hanger! Highly recommended to grades 3-6.
