⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This kept popping up on my IG feed (for once Al Gore’s Rhythm is working for me instead of against me) so I decided to give it a try. I wasn’t sure what to expect because while the average rating was 4+ on Goodreads, some of the reviewers complained it was boring and they didn’t get the sports references 9there wasn’t a lot of detailed sports references…it was all pretty general.)
I had to stop myself from finishing this in one night. The pace was good, the story was interesting. One thing that drives me kind of bananas in some mysteries is when the MC decides to investigate and it makes no freaking sense why, aside from feeling afronted that they weren’t included. This makes sense - the MC becomes part of the overall investigation in really practical ways. Don’t get me wrong, there are still moments when you want to shake her and say “just let the detectives do their job” but after meeting the local detective, we quickly learn if you want an honest investigation, you sometimes need to take matters into your own hands.
There are no contrived romances, no silly side stories; nothing seems far-fetched and it’s very well written.
I’ve already pre-ordered the next book in the series. :)
