Malibu Rising by Taylor Jenkins Reid

5.0

This is a story about family, the ties that bind, and how our parents live through us-whether they're related to us or not. I loved the story of June and Mike, and of young Nina. The descriptions of the setting and time really made the book come alive and you could feel like you were in Malibu with the characters.

I also loved the structure of the book and the foreshadowing sprinkled throughout. The party was brought to life by the guests and their shenaninagns. Yes, there were a lot of them but without them, the party would have lost all dimension. They added to the sense of place and they didn't distract from the core of the story, which were the Rivas and what they discover about themselves and each other. I recommend this to lovers of historical fiction, old Hollywood, and stories told in unconventional ways.
