Planet of the Apes by Pierre Boulle

3.0

2.5 Stars - I’ll be honest, the beginning of this book was ROUGH. I’ve read some pretty male gazey stuff from other old white men in the genre, but this one started with unabashed ogling right away and it almost made me stop reading. That being said, once the social commentary with the apes gets going it’s a much, much better story. I also didn’t realize how much horror was going to be in this book, but there’s a lot of striking imagery that I won’t soon forget. Overall, I can now see why it inspired so many movies and the ending is great!
