The Devil of Drury Lane
by Tracy Sumner
4.5 Stars
In the opulent ballrooms of Regency-era London, Mercy Ainsworth plays her part flawlessly. But she’d far rather be the artist of Drury Lane, her paintings ablaze with untamed passion. The equilibrium of her life is disrupted when Damien DeWitt, the youngest son of a duke, strides back into her world, she had an infatuation with him when she was a young girl. As their forbidden attraction deepens, Mercy finds herself torn between love and duty, while Damien grapples with the complexities of his own heart.
A very well written novella with strong characters & a well paced story. I loved both Damien & Mercy, he’s the university professor & she's an artist. They knew each other as children & now meet again when they are all grown up. Damien has kept a portrait Mercy drew of him & this leads them to meet again when he recognises another of her drawings. Boy sparks fly between them but she’s about to become betrothed to pay off her father’s debts & the DeWitt’s are struggling with their own monetary problems. An engrossing romance, which I read in a sitting
