Blood Lost by M.P. Starkweather

4.0

It's been a while since I read the first book in this series, although, not as long as I thought it was. However, I was quite happy when I got the invitation to grab my arc for this second book, because the cliffhanger of the previous book was brutal and interesting at once. Of course, I had some suspicions about what was probably happening, but one can never know for sure before one starts reading. And this morning I finally started.

I really really loved the politics in this book. There's so much going on! In the first book we already had the feud between Vic and Eli. In this book two more parties are added to the mix and it feels like the story only gets more and more complicated. I really loved how Starkweather adds pieces of the puzzle constantly and managed to make the world more interesting and more layered. I can't wait to see what we're gonna discover in the next book.

I also really love the guys in this series. They have a lot of background and it's quite clear they all had some really interesting and hard lives. We've seen some of it in the first book and now the third guy in the harem is introduced we get to see more of it. I have to admit that I still think that the characters are getting over their differences a little too easily, but it's quite clear that in this case love is an incredibly strong force.

I have to admit that I was less fond of the heroine in this book. I don't need my heroines to be sword fighting warriors, but the heroine in this book was very passive. She allowed her guys to sideline her for way too long and the way she reacted on losing her memory felt a little weird. I think everyone would at least want to know a LITTLE of the life they had before moving on with another man. I also think the writing gets a little monotonous at times.

However, the politics and the guys absolutely make the story worth it. So I'm looking forward to the next book already!
