Heather Fawcett has weaved a world in this book that feels like studying history through primary sources, and the occasional POV changes enriched the narrative. As far as characters go, the whole cast of small-town characters felt familiar and loveable. The main characters had realistic and lovely character development. Emily felt so relatable to me as a neurodivergent person learning to let people in, and Wendell grew on me as a character who cares deeply for the special people in his life but struggles with expressing it because of his upbringing. I learned of this book after buying a bookmark from a quote with it at my local Indie bookstore, and now I'm a Fawcett fan.
