Alone in Space: A Collection by Tillie Walden
5.0
'Alone in Space: A Collection' with stories and art by Tillie Walden is a graphic novel collection of short stories and art by Hugo-nominated cartoonist Tillie Walden.
The main longer story is 'The End of Summer' about a group of people living in a castle with a large cat named Nemo and some tense family relationships. Other stories focus on various stages of relationships.
In a style inspired by Winsor McKay and Hayao Miyazaki, characters are larger than the areas they live in. The whole thing has a dreamlike feel, but also borders on melancholy. I loved the tone of the stories and art in this collection. It's got the feel of ephemera at times, but I think that fits the art quite well, a loose disconnected style that speaks to our inner longings.
I received a review copy of this graphic novel from Letter Better in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this graphic novel.
