fermenares 's review for:
Little Women
by Louisa May Alcott
There's no way to express how dissapointed I am with this book. My mom loves it and used to tell me stories about the March sisters all the time. I finally picked it up and the first half of the book was interesting enough, I loved Jo's free spirit and Amy's frivolousness, they were the only characters in my opinion that had some personality.
I loved the moments between Jo and Laurie, and cried like a baby with poor Beth's sickness, but as soon as Meg got engaged with that guy and began to loose all hope for this story.
I know this is the product of its time, but I refuse to recommend a book that berates women and their individuality in such a way. This book slaps feminism in the face and tells young girls that the only roll they should fulfill in life is sacrifice every ich on individuality and personally desires to help their husbands and children, so the can thrive.
I'm not gonna lie, I think that there are good piece of advice and morals in this story. Jo's a self-made writer that is proud of what she does and is set on living by herself and her own efforts. However, all of that is overshadowed by in the end, and she loses all those values in the name of being a good happy wife.
I wish I hadn't had so much expectations about this.
