Olive Kitteridge by Elizabeth Strout

5.0

My favorite book of 2020. Olive is an extraordinary character with real, human traits that are frequently out of line. Like many of us, Olive has not done anything notably special, but from a local view, she formed the lives of a small bunch of people in het little life. Extremelly witty, well phrased and refreshing plot lines with a fine balance in heavy and softer stories. About unconditional love in unexpected forms and about bad endings that could not be altered no matter the efforts made. Olive is the embodiment of how things go in life. We are maladjusted, funny, caring and selfish, we accept things, hold on tight to other things – though we know it is useless, we have deep relationships with strangers and lose touch with the ones we used to love. Olive shows us life, unexpected, as it is.
