Four Faces of the Moon by Amanda Strong

4.0

I thought this was a really cool graphic novel and I thought the illustrations were really innovative. I’ve never seen stop-motion photography combined with illustrations before in a book so I appreciated seeing that and I think it allowed for a very immersive story. I really like how the author used the illustrative style to tell the story of her family and Métis history. I liked how the author was portrayed alongside her ancestors in the memories/stories she was describing. I think this graphic novel covers a very important part of history that I only knew very superficially. This graphic novel touches on the loss that her ancestors and people experienced, but also highlights their resilience and commitment to honor their history and keep their culture alive.

This graphic novel is very accessible if you’re looking to learn more about Métis history and don’t know where to start.
