LGBTQ aspects are minimal and peripheral, not a major theme or focus. Hierarchies of class and race are the major themes, but although we spend a lot of time in the characters’ thoughts, I didn’t finish the book feeling that I knew them or really understood their relationships, although those relationships are presented as driving forces for the plot. The plot culminates and ends quite abruptly at the very end of the book.
