While this really seems like a kitchen-sink type plot (I mean, look at all those tags, right?), it came together quite nicely. Sometimes, it felt like being led through a dark room only to have your eyelids burned off by a startling truth. You know, in a neat way.

Hmmm...I liked the flow and pacing of the story. The only thing I found lacking was main-character development. I mean, we do find out why they (the heroine and her sidekick/babysitter) are the way they are, but they don't really develop or grow all that much. Perhaps that's further down the line, though?

I did very much enjoy the mystery and the side characters-definitely quirky enough for my tastes. The badass middle-age mage couple and the lowlife street thugs who live in the neighborhood. I would read stories just about them. :)
