The Deepwater Bride
by Tamsyn Muir
dark
funny
hopeful
lighthearted
medium-paced
Loveable characters:
Yes
An exceptional good and clever version of a deep one cosmic horror tale.
If a couple minor aspects had been more fleshed out, it would have been perfect (mostly to do with the main character's familial backstory and interactions). But overall a great read if you can handle being thrown into the deep end right off the bat. (And, since I've read Gideon the Ninth by this same author, I was wholly prepared for that - so fellow fans of the Locked Tomb series, you absolutely should seek out this short story.)
